むずかしですがカタパルトシールのメカニズムです
(１）まずパイプの断面がC型（ただし開口部は上）のシリンダーを想像してください
２）シリンダー切り欠き部に断面が四角いゴムシール（実際は柔らかい金属シール）
が嵌まり込んで、蒸気漏れを防いでいるところを想像してください。
３）次に、上から見ると申という形になるように日型のバックルがシリンダーの上を滑ってゆくところを想像してください。
日（バックル）+I（バックル下のシリンダー）＝申（上から見たところ）です。
４）便宜上日の三本ある横棒を進行方向側から横棒１，２，３とよびます。
５）バックルに噛まされたベルトのように蒸気シールは横棒１の下、２の上、３の下という順で、通って行きます。つまり横棒１はシールを上から押さえつけ２はシールを溝から跳ね上げてその下を通り、３はシールを再び上から押さえつけて溝にはめ込みます。
６）さて、シリンダーの中にピストンを置き、そのピストンとシールの下を通るバックルの横棒２をボルトで連結します。
７）次にシールの上を通るバックルの横棒１と３を飛行甲板上のシャトルとボルトで連結してできあがりです。 )

＊上記の2つのピストンを貫通した逆T字バーの横棒前半分は竹のように節の
あるパイプ状です。
＊節には小穴があいてます。また竹状パイプの横にも笛のように小穴があいてます
＊ピストンの前進終点に差し込み穴が横に開いた水タンクがあり、ゴムシールで 肛門状に閉じられてます。
＊ピストンが前進すると穴の開いた竹状パイプのくちばしが、水タンク横穴に
突き刺さり、水が竹状（笛状）パイプ小穴を通って噴出します。
＊水が小穴を通る流動抵抗で（ダンパーの原理で）急速に衝突エネルギーが吸収されます。)
